Choozenji 長善寺 Chozen-Ji - Shinjuku Shibuya
Sasadera 笹寺 "Sasa bamboo grass temple"

四谷山 Shigokuzan, Chozenji

東京都新宿区四谷4-4 / Shinjuku, Yotsuya

Statue of Kannon Bosatsu.

The main statue is 釈迦如来 Shaka Nyorai.

This is one of the oldest temples in the Yotsuya area.
The temple originated in 1575 from an estate of a vassall of 武田信玄 Takeda Shingen named 高坂昌信 (春日虎綱 Kasuga Toratsuna (1527 - 1578).
When the Second Shogun, Tokugawa 秀忠 Hidetada came to the area, it was covered with Sasa reeds and he named it
Sasadera 笹寺.
Hidetada came here to rest after hunting with hawks in the area.

The original statue of Kannon was made of aka menoo 赤めのう red agate stone and called
Meno Kannon めのう観音 Kannon made from Agate.

The statue of Shaka Nyorai was made in 1688.
In the graveyard are stones for 林国雄 Hayashi Kunio (1758 - 1819), his son 林甕雄 and grandchild 林甕臣.
The Hayashi family were 国学者 Japanese classical scholars.

- quote
Just off Shinjuku-dori a minute's walk or so from Yotsuya-sanchome subway station, Sasadera is a quiet Buddhist temple, with a restful atmosphere that's in stark contrast to the urban bustle around it.
The graveyard is typically tranquil, with some ancient grave markers, a Buddhist statue or two, and the long boards which stand at each grave, their gentle rattle pretty much the only sound.
The main point of interest is a large statue of the Kannon, a Buddhist deity, standing tall and serene above everyone. Get up close and in the metal around the base you'll see a few scenes showing Buddhist saints, monks and devotees, rendered in marvelous detail.

. kitsune no yome-iri, kitsune no yomeiri 狐の嫁入り "the fox taking a bride" .
On a rainy evening, a fox parade with lanterns to lead a bride was seen in the back of 極楽寺 the Temple Gokuraku-Ji.
They walked to roosugi 老杉 the old cedar tree in the school yard and suddenly disappeared.
It seems the fox parade always disappears if people try to observe it.
