Just a block from Ark Hotel Royal in the busy streets of Tenjin,
near the nightlife of Oyafuko-dori, lies Ankokuji Zen Temple.
Originally located in Nakatsu in Oita, the temple was moved to Fukuoka City
when the feudal lord expanded his territory.
This temple is mostly known for the tomb of the legendary 'candy-buying ghost' and
the largest bell of all temples in the city.

205 / Shimane, Matsue city, Makuragi town

The main statue is Yakushi Nyorai.

A stone statue of 不動明王 Fudo Myo-O is in the compound.

- quote
Kezou-ji Temple is located at the summit of 枕木山(456m) Mt. Makuragi in Matsue city, with the elevation of 456m.
This temple has a long and important history of Buddism in Shimane. It is said to be originally built in 825 by 智元上人 Chigen Shonin (holy priest) and was the temple of Tendai sect of Buddism at the time.
Later in the late Kamakura period, it was reconstructed as a Zen temple and prospered so much it became one of the most famous temples in the region.
After then, the temple had decayed as a result of a fire caused by the war.
The temple saw the light of the day again when 堀尾吉晴 Horio Yoshiharu, the feudal lord of Matsue at the time, decided to build Matsue Castle in 1607.
Since Mt. Makuragi is located in the spot superstitiously believed to be unlucky, the temple was restorated and became a temple for praying.
The sitting statue of Yakushi Nyorai kept in Yakushido Hall is the work of the late Heian Period and designated a National Important Cultural Property.
The gate of the precinct built in the middle of Edo Period is Cultural property designated by Shimane Prefecture.
From the observation platform, you can enjoy the view of Lake Nakaumi, Lake Shinji, and Mt. Daisen.
If the weather conditions are good enough, you can even see the Oki Islands in the distance.

4-13-1 / Kokubu, Dazaifu, Fukuoka

The main statue is Yakushi Nyorai
The statue was made by . Gyoki Bosatsu

- Chant of the temple

- quote
This is one of the Kokubunji Temples constructed nationwide under the orders of Emperor Shomu
Wood tabs related to census registration were discovered around this site, suggesting that there were related facilities for Chikuzen-koku Province, such as a provincial office nearby.
The surrounding landscape still retains some remnants of that era.
In the year 741, Emperor Shomu announced that he would build Kokubun-ji Temples for monks and
Kokubun-niji Temples for nuns all over Japan and place Buddhist scriptures in Shichiju-no-to (Seven-Story pagoda).
Thus Chikuzen Kokubun-ji Temple was the earliest built temple in Kyushu, completed inthe year 756.
Investigations of ruins of halls and towers have been done and partially maintained.

- quote -
Hayaakitsuhiko and Hayaakitsuhime Hayaakitsuhiko and Hayaakitsuhime are kami (god) in Japanese Methodology (shinto).
The kanji used for Hayaakitsuhiko and Hayaakitsuhime are 速秋津比古神 and 速秋津比売神, respectively, in Kojiki (The Records of Ancient Matters);
(Hayaakitsuhinomikoto) in Nihonshoki (Chronicles of Japan).
In the Kojiki, it is stated that Hayaakitsuhiko and Hayaakitsuhime are also known as Minato no kami.
Hayaakitsuhiko and Hayaakitsuhime are a god and goddess pair who were born between Izanagi and Izanami in the section of kamiumi (bearing gods between Izanagi and Izanami) in the Japanese Methodology. Minato no kami is a collective term for them.
According to the volume 6 of an "alternate writing" transmitted by Nihonshoki, 'gods at the water gates are called Hayaakitsuhinomikoto.' ... Minato no kami means god of sea port.
Since port was constructed at the mouth of a river in ancient times, Minato no kami is also god for a river mouth.
From the image of running impurities in a river, Minato no kami is also regarded as a god for warding off evil fortune.
'Haya' in the names of Hayaakitsuhiko and Hayaakitsuhime implies the speed of the water in the river or the current in the ocean.
Also, the names of the god and goddess are considered to have originated from the fact that the use of the river mouth depends on the speed of the current.
On the other hand, 'akitsu' in the names of the god and goddess is thought to mean that misogi (purification ceremony) purifies things quickly and clearly. ...

There were at one time seven Komagome sub-districts, called
Seven villages of Komagome.
They also used to be called

Somei no Uekiya
The village of Somei, currently the Sugamo and Komagome areas of Toshima Ward,
was the area where many gardeners lived.
The famous "Somei Yoshino" cherry tree is said to have been named after this village,
as it was born in Somei village.

Somei 染井 in Edo
the Somei area -- a general name given to a cluster of small towns and villages that specialize in growing ornamental plants and trees to plant in the gardens of all the wealthy daimyo in Edo. The two main towns in this area are Komagome and Sugamo, but most people in Edo know the area as "Somei" and the farmers who live in the region are known as the Somei uekiya (the landscape gardeners of Somei).
They get their reputation from their great skill in raising thousands of different types of ornamental plants. The farms in the Somei area produce most of the ornamental plants that the daimyo plant in their gardens, and many flower markets are held in the small towns along the Nakasendo, where common people can also buy flowers, trees and shrubs.
In fact, even the beautiful gardens inside Edo Castle are landscaped and tended by gardeners from Somei.
Somei is the home of one of the most famous gardeners in Edo: Ihei Masatake.
Masatake is the son of perhaps the greatest landscape gardener ever -- Ihei Sannojo,
and many believe that Masatake is as good at actual gardening as his famous father.

Samuhara Shrine, Osaka

2-5-26 / 2 Chome-5-26 Itachibori, Nishi-ku, Ōsaka-shi,

- quote
A Shinto-derived new religious movement which began in 1935 when Tanaka Tomisaburō (1868-1967) rebuilt a dilapidated shrine in Okayama.
After he had experienced a close brush with death on the frontline during the Russo-Japanese War, Tanaka felt he had received power from a talisman inscribed with four ideograms which he read sa-mu-ha-ra, and in turn he began to make miniature amulets (omamori) of this sort which he distributed for free.

Because of such proselytizing activities, however, the regional authorities accused him of using an unauthorized shrine to conduct private business, and as punishment, the shrine he had constructed was stripped of its contents and burned to the ground in 1936.
Tanaka, however, continued his activities of distributing amulets to troops being sent to the Asian front during World War II, and following the war in 1951, he registered his movement under the Religious Corporations Law (Shūkyō Hōjinhō) and rebuilt the shrine. In 1952 he moved the shrine to its present location.
After Tanaka's death his adopted son Tanaka Kōichi succeeded him.

The four letters SA MU HA RA help protect the body from harm and grand a long life.
Since they are shinji 神字 characters of God, they can not be expressed with normal 漢字 Kanji characters and can not be reproduced on a computer.
They have been used since olden times for amulets of temples,

The canal at Kudansaka 件坂下 / 九段坂 is called 牛ヶ淵 "riverpool of the bull".
It is a 魔所 bewitched place.
Once in 1782, a Samurai rode here on his horse, but he fell down and tumbled into the "Riverpool of the Bull".
But the man and his horse did not show any wounds.
This is because once the Samurai was hunting for pheasants and shot at a kiji 雉 pheasant.
He followed the bird and finally caught it and saw the four letters SAMUHARA written on its wings.
Since then he had kept an amulet with these words in his breast pocket.
