The main statue is 聖観世音菩薩 Sho Kannon Bosatsu.

The temple was founded in 1622 by the Lord of the Shima region.
In the Meiji restauration, it was abolished.
It was re-established by 山下亮永師 Yamashita Akitsune.
In the compound is the grave of 寺沢式部 Terazawa Shikibu.

The temple is also called 領巾振山(ひれふりやま) Hirefuriyama.

はるばると住山寺へ分け入れば仏の恵み深き谷川

Nisshozan Jūzan-ji is located around 2 ri distance north from Kameyama.
It stands inside the village of Juzan.
The main statue is a Jūichimen Kannon (Eleven-Faced Kannon).
According to the legend the temple was built at the beginning of the 9th Century.
The main statue of Jūichimen Kannon (Eleven-Faced Kannon) was carved in the times of Emperor Saga (786-842)
by a famous monk 行基 Gyōki (668-749), who traveled around Japan to preach to commoners.
The Meditation Hall and a complete seven-structured temple compound construction followed.
The temple was given the name Jūzan-ji. In 1578 the temple was turned into ash by the forces of Oda Nobunaga,
later regarded as the first "Great Unifier" of Japan.
Fortunately the main statue was saved and moved to a small hall in the north-east part of the village.
Because it went under protection of Shingon sect, the temple was not officially closed.
In 1676 the Lord of Kameyama Castle 板倉重常 Itakura Shigetsune (1643-1688)
invited Hakudo 柏堂禅師 a Chinese Zen monk Hakudō to help revive the temple and rebuilt Jūzan-ji in its former grounds.
It became a branch temple of Ōbakusan Manpuku-ji – the head temple of Ōbaku sect of Zen Buddhism located in Uji,
and changed its name to Nisshōzan Enpuku-ji.
In 1678 a new main statue depicting 聖観音 Shō Kannon (Sacred Kannon) was made and a year later in 1679,
together with Jūichimen Kannon the old main statue of Jūzan-ji temple, it was enshrined in a newly erected Kannon Hall.
The Visitors Hall and abbot's living quarters were donated by
坂上慰右衛門 Sakanoue Iemon from Yamamoto village of Sesshū province.
The old temple's terrain was organized, a new road leading to the temple was built
and the Main Gate was constructed.
A pond with artificial islands was built within temple's grounds.
In 1701 a complete seven-structured temple compound in Zen style was finished.
In 1691 a compilation of basic Zen Buddhism texts edited by Tetsugen was offered
by a monk Ryōō from Toeizan Mountain in Musashi province and placed in a newly built Sutra Hall.
In 1696 the roof of Kannon Hall, which was covered with wood shingles,
was changed to a roof covered with ceramic tiles.
In 1716 a seriously damaged Kannon Hall was repaired thanks to 北潭 Hokutan,
a disciple of the 2nd abbot of the temple, who bought 30 pine trees for a total price of 100 ryo.
In that year the temple's name was reverted to Jūzan-ji, once again to be changed to Enpuku-ji some time later.
During the Edo period (1603-1868) the temple was protected and sustained by 亀山城主 the Lords of Kameyama Castle.
In 1679 the temple received a donation of land worth 5 koku (0.75t) of rice,
34.7ha (85.7ac) of mountains and forests and 1.8t of rice from Lord Itakura Shigetsune.
At the beginning of Meiji period (1868-1912) all high ranked monks left the temple and moved to Manpuku-ji in Uji.
The temple was abandoned until 1899, when an abbot of Shinkō-in, a sub-temple of Manpuku-ji,
moved to Kameyama, became a new abbot of Enpuku-ji and revived the temple once again.

Enpuku-ji changed drastically once again in the end of the 20th Century.
As Ise Shimbun newspaper from 21st of August 1995 states:
On the 20th of August at 0:35 in the night a fire started from the Main Hall.
The 80m2 (861.1ft2) wooden building with a roof covered in tiles burned to the ground.
Kobutsu Hall which was 20m2 (215.27ft2) and stood on the north east side of the Main Hall
and enshrines the old Buddhist statue and other Buddhist utensils was also partially destroyed.
Almost 800m2 (956yd2) of the forest growing at the mountain behind the Main Hall was also turned into ash.
The fire died out after burning for around 1.5 hour. (abbrev.)
The main statue of sitting Shō Kannon (wooden, 60cm, 23.6in),
statue of Buddha Shakyamuni (previously worshiped in the Sutra Hall),
statue of the founder of Enpuku-ji monk Hakudō as well as many other statues
that were worshiped since the hall was rebuilt were all lost in the fire.
Currently a temporary hall has been built at the site of the Main Hall.
It enshrines the old main statue of Jūichimen Kannon, which miraculously survived the fire untouched.
The temple is planning to rebuild the lost Main Hall.

The date of the founding is not clear,
but it is already mentioned in 新編武蔵風土記稿 records of the Edo period.
The temple was abolished in the Meiji restauration.
The Fudo statue was replaced in the Kannon Hall.

In the compound is 観音堂 a Kannon Hall and 稲荷社 an Inari Shrine.

The temple was founded by 行基 Saint Gyoki Bosatsu.

The legend says that in the year 740 a famous monk Gyōki (668-749)
following an ordered by 聖武天皇 Emperor Shōmu (701-756)
was on his way to Ise Shrine to pray for the safe completion of Tōdai-ji temple in Nara.
When he visited this land he had a revelation.
He saw a clear spring gushing in the middle of the forest and golden light coming out from it.
Gyōki decided to build there a temple that would be praying for Emperor Shōmu.
He named the temple Kanaisan (Golden Well Mountain), and this is where the mountain name of Rinkō-ji comes from.
In ancient times temples were often build at places where a clean spring gushed out from the ground.
Rinkō-ji is also an example of such temple.
In later years the temple flourished as a praying place for many generations of 神戸城主 the Lords of Kanbe Castle.
Many offerings that were presented by them are still in the temple's possession.
The Main Hall of the Rinkō-ji, which stands to this day, was first rebuilt during the Momoyama period (1583-1600).
Then it was repaired by the abbot 尭元和尚 Gyōgen in Kanei period (1624-1644).
In 1996 the roof of the Hall was restored.
The Main Hall interior is a great example of the late 16th Century style.
The carving of the altar, rich coloring of the columns, splendid wall decorations,
pictures of flowers and birds on the coffered ceiling
and many more are unique examples of Momoyama style.
The main statue of Senju Kannon was made in Heian period (795-1092).
It is 1.27m (4ft2in) high and it is made from single piece of hinoki 桧 cypress.
It is said that it has elegant face and that the carving of the body is shallow and light.
This statue is a hibutsu 秘仏 (hidden Buddhist statue) but it is shown to the public once per year –
from the night of the 8th till the morning of the 10th of August.
The statue is registered as 国の重要文化財 National Important Cultural Property.
According to the records 閻魔堂 the Enma Hall
(Hall enshrining Enma-ō – King of the Underworld and Judge of the Dead)
was built in the late 14th Century.
Since then it was rebuilt only once between the years of 1704 and 1711.
It is said that it was built to hold memorial service to people who died beside the road
during travel, prostitutes who died of illness, stillborn children and unlucky people.
Every year on February 16th and August 16th Emma Hall is open to the public and special ritual is being held.

Seiyōzakki 勢陽雑記
Kanaisan Rinkō-ji stands in the middle of Kanbe city behind 鍛冶町 Kaji district.
It is commonly called はやし寺 Hayashi-dera (Forest temple).
The temple is a sacred ground built for Emperor Shōmu.
The main statue is Senju Kannon, beautiful as if Goddess Amaterasu carved it out of wood herself.
The golden light shining in the forest, fireflies flying among the trees of Mount Kanai.

- - - - - Legend knows this:
During the regency of 聖武天皇の代（724 - 749） Emperor Shomu Tenno
a hunter shot at a white deer. The deer run away, leaving a bright golden shine.
On the spot they found a stone statue of Kannon Bosatsu, with an arrow in her stomach.
The hunter regreted his deed and became a monk, using the name 法弓 Hokyu
and built a hut for his prayers and rituals.
When 高倉天皇 Emperor Takakura Tenno (1161 - 1181) was ill, he had reimu 霊夢 an oracle dream:
Kannon Bosatsu appeared to him:
"If you drink the water from the Temple Anpuku-Ji in Saga, you will be healed."
The Eemperor ordered 平重盛 Taira no Shigemori to go there and get the water.
The Emperor was soon healed and now ordered a large temple to be built there.

The waves of Tsutsumi Bay sounding like a temple's drum remind of a Buddha's absolute vow

According to the legend Koyasu Kannon-ji was built by
a powerful member of the imperial court 藤原不比等 Fujiwara Fuhito (659-720),
who followed the order of 聖武天皇 Emperor Shōmu (701-756).
It was officially opened by Dōshō 道證上人 monk Dosho in 715.
Koyasu Kannon-ji is a famous temple with more than 1200 years of history.

The temple's legend say that the main statue depicts 白衣観音菩薩 Byakue Kannon (White-Robed Kannon),
who appeared from the waters of nearby bay riding a drum. She is worshiped as
子安観音 Koyasu Kannon (Kannon protecting children and childbirth)
and gathers plenty of devoted believers who come to pray for help with difficult childbirths
and ask for the protection of their progeny.

Koyasu Kannon-ji has many cultural properties in its possession.
Among them there are: 仁王門 the Niō Gate (Main Gate), 本堂 the Main Hall, 銅灯籠 Bronze Lantern, 鐘楼堂 The Bell Tower,
三重の塔 Three-storied Pagoda,
portraits of Empress Shōtoku (718-770), Emperor Gohanazono (1419-1471), Emperor Ōgimachi (1517-1593),
and safe childbirth prayer written on paper offered by Tokugawa clan members.

In temple's grounds grows a sakura cherry tree known as
不断桜 Fudanzakura, sakura which blooms all year long.
According to the legend it sprouted from ashes of the temple,
which burned after being hit by a lightning in Tenpyō Hōji period (757-765).
In 1923 the sakura tree was designated as a National Natural Monument.

Shirokosan Kannon-ji belongs to Shingon sect.
It stands within monks settlements in 白子村 Shiroko village.
It was an official praying place of 聖武天皇 Emperor Shōmu.
It is said it was built by Fujiwara Fuhito.
It is called 白衣の観音 Kannon of Shiroko.
People say that the sound of the crushing waves in this bay resemble hitting a drum.
That is why since ancient times this bay is called Tsutsumi no ura, つつみの浦 Tsutsumi Bay (Drum Bay).

It is also mentioned as 新龍山大聖寺 Temple Shinryuzan Daisho-Ji.

The main statue is 大聖不動明王 Daisho Fudo Myo-O
with 二童子 two acolytes at his side.

The date of the founding is not clear.
In old records it is mentioned as a sub-temple of 観音寺 Temple Kannon-Ji.

Nearby is 新曽氷川神社 the Shrine Niizo Hikawa Jinja.

There was a mountain ascet named 金剛院 Kongo-In, who served 五反田の城主 the Lord of the Gotanda Castle.
While he was travelling in Nagasaki, he heared of a war in his home town and hurried back home.
The soldiers in the castle thought by mistake the castle was lost and killed themselves.
The castle had fallen, but Kongo-In became onryoo 怨霊 a vengeful spirit and annoyed the people.

Men cut down a 22-meter pine tree at dawn, dress the tree, drag the truck around town,

One night he saw a leg coming down from the ceiling, saying:

When this happened, there was always great misfortune in the village.

Around 1820, a young woman was bewitched by a curse of a disease.
A priest could drive the illness out.
He said he had relocated the curse to the statue of 伊良原地蔵 Irahara Jizo.
Then a mountain priest of 金剛院 the Temple Kongo-In did an incantation for healing,
they found it was a bewitchment of a fox.
With a special ritual for 愛染明王 Aizen Myo-O the woman could be healed.

. Misakigami ミサキ神 Misaki Kami Deity .
Once the wife of a villager became very ill.
A priest from 金剛院 the Temple Kongo-In made kaji 加持 a prayer incantatnion.
He found that the house of the ill woman was in the way of the local Misakigami deities.
So the family rebuilt the house elsewhere and the woman was healed.

ryuuketsu 龍穴 / 竜穴 a dragon's den
Around 1810, a mountain priest from 金剛院 the Temple Kongo-In spent time
in a cave of 行縢山 Mount Mukabakiyama (829 m).
He heard that at 布引の滝 the Nunobiki Waterfall was a ryuuketsu 龍穴 / 竜穴 a dragon's den water hole,
so he dived in, but there was nothing special to be found.

佐賀県武雄市山内町三間坂甲14866 / Saga, Takeo city, Yamauchi, Mimasaka

The main statue is Yakushi Nyorai 薬師如来, with 阿弥陀如来 Amida Nyorai and 聖観音 Sho-Kannon Bosatus at his side.
The statue of Amida Nyorai was made by carver 安阿弥 Annami, who had come from Korea.

- Chant of the temple

The temple was founded by 弘法大師 Kobo Daishi when he was in the area at 西光密寺 the Temple Saikomitsu-Ji.
In the Kamakura period the temple was called 黒髪三所大権現 Kurokami Sansho Daigongen und under the protection of
後藤貴明 Lord Saito Kataakira (1534 - 1583).
In the Meiji Restauration in 1868 the temple became abandoned.
The Temple has a small bronze statue of 白衣観音 Byakue Kannon with a white robe,
which was most probably made for 隠れキリシタン the hidden Christians of the area.
This statue is also called 隠れキリシタン観音 Kannon for the Hidden Christians.

In former times, there was a field "without a bottom" near 東光寺 the Temple Toko-Ji.
Nobody dared to plant rice near them.
Once a farmer dared to plant rice, but soon his wife became very ill
and could not work the whole year. The husband worked alone during summer
but both died in winter.

The main statue is 聖観世音菩薩 Sho Kannon Bosatsu.
In the hall is also a statue of 不動明王 Fudo Myo-O and 弘法大師 Kobo Daishi.

The temple 徳祥寺 was founded around 1660 by 定徳僧都 Priest Jotoku
on request of 後西天皇 Emperor Gosai Tenno （1655 - 1663）.
The Temple is located in 三宝谷 Sanpo Vally, hence the name.

In 1981, it was declared a 有形民俗文化財 Tangible Folk Cultural Property.
絵馬は、社寺に祈願のために奉納する絵入りの額のことで、その習慣は古くからありました。人々に広く普及したのは江戸時代で、時代とともに絵に込める願いも多様化し、様様な図が描かれました。
戸田市内には数多くの絵馬が残されていますが、美女木の徳祥寺に奉納された千手観音供養図絵馬は、
1822年（文政5年）の年号が記され、年号のある絵馬の中では市内で最も古いものです。
この図は、千手観音を囲んで観音経を唱えている様子を描いたもので、講の人たちが記念に奉納したものといわれています。
