The main statue is 大日如来 Dainichi Nyorai.
The statue of 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai is a Nationally designated Important Cultural Property.
The statue was made in 970 at the death of Lord 藤原実頼 Fujiwara no Saneyori.
. Fujiwara no Saneyori (Onomiya-dono) (900 - 970) .

The temple was origianlly called 小野院極楽寺 Ono-In, Gokuraku-Ji.
Later it was lost to a great flood, but rebuilt in 1497.
In 1525, 宣叟曇周 Priest Senso revived it again as a temple of the Soto sect.

The main statue is 阿弥陀如来 Amida Nyorai.

The temple was founded around 享保年間 (1716 - 36) by 静峯真明大和尚 High Priest Shizamine Masaaki .
One member of the four great rich families in 蔵持村 Kuramochi village, 大夫永吉 Taifu Eikichi,
who also gave a lot of space to the compound.
The written documents of that time are still present in the storage building.
In 1838, a female member of the family became a nun called 覚恵 Kakue.
The small shrine for the Buddha statue has very detailed carvings.
It was made in the early Tokogawa period.
At the front door is a painting of 勢至観音 Seishi Kannon Bosatsu and
十二天 Juniten, the 12 Hevenly Gods.
At the back door there are paintings of 千仏面 1000 Buddhas.

In the compound is a statue called ibotori Jizo いぼとり地蔵 Jizo to take away warts.


There is also a 芭蕉句碑 stone memorial with a haiku of Matsuo Basho,

Once upon a time,
the priest from the Temple 長慶寺 Chokei-Ji came home from a funeral,
where he had received some botamochi 牡丹餅 ボタモチ sweets.
On the way home a fox passed by.
At home, when the priest wanted to eat the sweets, they had transformed into horse manure.

The head priest 牧厳和尚 Makigon of the temple 長慶寺 Chokei-Ji
was very awkward at reciting the sutras or copying scriptures.
One day he was posessed by a Tanuki and went to a Tanuki funeral.
When he came back home,
he could suddenly write beautiful letters and recite wonderful sutras.

fue no ne 笛の音 the sound of a flute
Once upon a time, at the 上釜口 Shimo-Kamakuchi side of 三富村 Mitomi village,
there lived a young man called 権三郎 Gonzaburo with his mother.
At the end of one year there was a huge flooding and the mother died.
Gonzaburo took the flute of his mother and went to find river 笛吹川 Fuefukigawa,
but he could not find the body of his mother.
So he threw himself into the river and died.
The villagers found the body of Gonzaburo and burried him.
After that, the sound of the flute was heard constantly.
Priest Chokei held a special ritual at the Temple 長慶寺 Chokei-Ji to appease the soul
and built a mound called 権三郎塚 Gonzaburozuka.
Later he was revered as 権三郎不動 Gonzaburo Fudo.

The main statue is 善光寺如来 Zenkoji Nyorai -- 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai.
It was carved by 慈覚大師 Jikaku Daishi Ennin (794 - 864)
with the special method of itto sanrai 一刀三礼 carving one stroke with the blade and praying three times.
Thus it would keep people who prayed to it very healthy.

The temple was founded in 829 on request of 淳和天皇 Emperor Junna.
It was bulit by priest 澄純法師 Sumijun Hoshi.
In the Middle Ages, the temple was called
妙光山藤林坊 Myokozan Fujibayashi-Bo or 松寿院長興寺 Choju-In Choko-Ji.

In 1977, the current main hall was covered with glass
and got a special prize from the 日本建築学会賞 Japanese Architectural Institute (AIJ).

byakkoo 白狐 a white fox
飯田市願王寺の伝説では、永寿10年に将軍足利義教 Ashikaga Yoshinori (1394 - 1441) と鎌倉の足利持氏 Ashikaga Mochiuchi (1398 - 1439) が戦った。持氏の末子永寿丸は山中に逃げ延びたが、父祖の業を継ぐため松川の里山に下りた。そこで不思議にも現れた白狐の指示で信仰していた鎌倉稲荷の堂をつくる。鎌倉に戻った永寿丸は、大日如来と稲荷を本尊とした願王寺を建設した。正徳5年(1715)に松川が洪水に襲われ願王寺が被害を受けた。そこで僧弁存が再興を図ると、白狐が現れて現在の地を示したという。

垂坂のお大師さん

The main statue is 元三大師 Ganzan Daishi(良源さま Ryogen sama))
Ryōgen (良源)

In 815, priest 最澄 Saicho placed a statue of Yakushi Nyorai here.
The statue was made by prince 聖徳太子 Shotoku Taishi (574 - 622) himself.
In 928, the temple was revitalized on request of the local lord, 船木良見 Funaki Yoshimi.
The compound was enlarged to 2 km in each direction.
In the compound were more than 54 sub-Temples.
In August 1575, the temple burned down in the war of Oda Nobunaga.
In 1691, the lord of Kuwana, 松平定重 Matsudaira Sadashige, revived it 
and rebuild the main hall. 
In 1873, the temple was abandoned, but revitalized in 1883, 
In the North of the compound, the remains of the Goto silk mill are still visible.

At the temple Daishooji 大聖寺 Daisho-Ji Around 1720 at a small shrine within the temple compound
there was a Raiju which could not find its way back to heaven.
The priest stuck a long pole in the ground to help it climb up.
When the officials heard the story,
they thought the temple must be blessed especially
and gave it a lot of land as special reward.

The main statue is 釋迦如来 Shaka Nyorai.
The pilgrim statue is 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai.

The date of the founding is not clear.
The temple was founded by 法印円寂 High Priest Enjaku.
In 1686, Priest 秀海 Shukai was the third generation.
After the Meiji Restauration in 1868, it became a sub-temple of
伊古乃速御玉比売神社 the Shrine Ikonohayami Tamahime Jinja.

The pilgrim statue is 千手観世音菩薩 Senju Kannon Bosatsu.

The date of the founding is not clear, but the temple seems rather old.
In 1573, it was restored during the reign of 織田信長 Oda Nobunaga.
Many families in this area have the name 内野 of the Uchino Family.

The main statue is 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai.
The pilgrim statue is 延命地蔵菩薩 Enmei Jizo Bosatsu.

The temple was founded in 1243
and called 青鳥山延命寺 Odorizan Enmei-Ji.
In 1240 it had been built near 小名延命寺 Shomyo Enmeil-Ji,
In 1248 it became part of 後深草院 Gokukakusa-In and the mountain name was 大願山 Daiganzan.
In the Edo period the compound was very large with more than 30 sub-Temples.
In 1650, the temple got more land from the Edo government.

It grew very large in the Edo period.

今井の観音さん Imai no Kannon San

The Kannon statue is 十一面観世音菩薩 Juichimen Kannon Bosatsu.
At her side are statues of 不動明王 Fudo Myo-O and 毘沙門天 Bishamon Ten.
There are also statues of Kobo Daishi and 興教大師 Kogyo Daishi Kakuban.

- Chant of the temple
おん ろけい じんばら きりく 

The temple was founded in 812 by 弘法大師 Kobo Daishi Kukai.

When he walked nearby on his way to 伊勢神宮 the Shrine of Ise Jingu,
he found a golden rope, heard the beautiful voice of a rooster and found a bottle of ritual water.
These "three auspicious treasures" led to the name Kinjuuzan 金縄山 "Mountain of the golden rope".
It was later shortened to kanenawa 金縄 "golden rope" and then called 今井山 Imaizan.
Midokoro
On the second floor of the bell tower there are on the left and right statues of
kongoo rikishi 金剛力士 the guardian deities of the entrance.

In the front yard of the main hall is a famous shidarezakura 枝垂桜 weeping cherry blossom tree.
It has been given to the head priest by 太閤秀吉 Toyotomi Hideyoshi, when he visited Daigo-Ji 醍醐寺
for the famous cherry blossop viewing party, ”醍醐の花見の宴” in 1598.
Now it is part of the Kan'ō kai 観桜会 Cherry blossom viewing ritual,
where the doors are opened to view the main statue.
There are many importand cultural properties in the temple.

三重県三重郡菰野町下村191 / Mie district, Komono town, Shimomura village

The main statue is 大日如来 Dainichi Nyorai.
The statue of 薬師如来 Yakushi Nyorai stood by its side.
The temple was founded by 藤原鎌足創建 Fujiwara no Kamatari.
It used to be called temple 盧遮那寺 Rushana-Ji.
It was a large temple with seven important buildings, but all burned down.
In 1503 it was rebuilt by a priest of 臨済宗 the Rinzai sect.

The new Yakushi Hall holds the statue of 菰野薬師 Komono Yakushi.
