This is a story about the young Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who is taken on a tour of the underworld by a Tengu from Mount Kurama.
Written in the Muromachi period.
This story exists in numerous lavish picture scrolls and woodblock-printed editions in libraries and museums around the world.

Ushiwaka's "Visit to Supernatural Regions (Tengu no dairi)
In this story, Ushiwaka learns of the existence of a tengu palace deep in the mountains and by offering prayers to Bishamon succeeds in visiting it.
The Great Tengu welcomes him hospitably and offers to take him to see Yoshitomo (his father), who has been reborn in the Pure Land as a Buddha. Following a tour of the 136 Buddhist hells, the two finally reached the Pure Land.
Yoshitomo urges Ushiwaka to destroy the Heike and then predicts his future.
Back in the Tengu palace, Ushiwaka and the Great Tengu exchange pupil-teacher vows
and Ushiwaka returns to Kurama.

A district in . Katsushika ward 葛飾区 .

During the Kamakura period,
the land between the rivers 江戸川 Edogawa and 中川 Nakagawa belonged to the clan of
葛西三郎 / 葛西清重 Kasai Saburo Kiyoshige (1161 - 1238).
The land was more of a swamp in constant danger of floodings.
One of Kasai's retainers, 御城蔵人正房 Oshiro Kurando Masafusa had his castle built there,
with a moat around it, but it was later abandoned.
The place was also called 御城地（みじょうち）Mijo-Chi.
In the Muromachi period, remains of the old moats were found and the area got the name "Horikiri".
In the Edo period, villagers begun to use the swamps to plant flowers that need a lot of water.
A gardener named 伊左衛門 Izaemon collected iris seeds from all parts of Japan.
His son continued the collection and by 1835, they grew more than 180 different types.

The area became quite famous for its Iris during the Edo period and many visitors came.

The iris is an essential flower for the Tango Festival. Irises were like a protective amulet to the people of Edo who feared epidemics and diseases in the run up to summer and the practices of drinking iris sake as well as submerging oneself in iris bath were carried out in the belief that it would also dispel evil and have an effect against poisoning from snakes and insects.
It is not known when irises were brought to Horikiri.


Hiroshige

A marshy area where a branch of the 綾瀬川 Ayase-gawa River flows, it is perfect for cultivation of the Japanese iris. At the beginning of the 19th century, the farmer Iza'emon began cultivation of the Japanese iris, and at the end of the Edo Period, a wide variety of iris plants thrived and bloomed here. This created iris gardens which many of the people of Edo came to see.

It is said by some that Shogen Miyata, the retainer of an estate steward of the area, Taneo Kubodera in the Muromachi period, had irises brought from the Asaka marsh (present day Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture) and started cultivating them and it is also said by some that during the Bunka period (1804-1818), a local farmer called Izaemon was interested in irises and received varieties including 'juni-hitoe' from Rokusaburo Mannen, the local hatamoto, 'hagoromo' and 'tatsutagawa' from the iris lover Sakingo Matsudaira, and began cultivating the irises.

Hayakawa Noritsugu 早川徳次（のりつぐ）

He is renowned for funding the construction of Japan's first subway system, now known as the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, which opened in 1927.

After obtaining a license, he established the Tokyo Underground Railway Co. in 1920. The first underground rail link connected Asakusa and Ueno in 1927.

日本で最初に地下鉄を建設し、「地下鉄の父」と呼ばれた笛吹市出身の早川徳次（のりつぐ）（１８８１～１９４２）の住宅の見学会が７日に開かれる。地元の市民グループ「早川徳次ふるさと後援会」が主催し、ひげを生やしていた徳次の顔をかたどったミニだるまづくりを初めて計画。ふるさとの偉人に親しみを感じてもらい、地域の活性化にもつなげたい考えだ。
後援会は２０１７年に発足し、会員約５０人。地元出身の早川徳次の功績紹介と地域振興を目的に活動している。早川邸は「早川家住宅主屋」として国の登録有形文化財に選ばれている。後援会が年２回開く見学会では、普段は非公開の邸内を見ることができる。
ミニだるまを考案したのは甲州市在住の自営業、渡辺麻世さん（２８）。アクセサリーなどを趣味で手作りしている。昨年夏、知人の後援会メンバーと会食した際、徳次の業績について話を聞いた。祖父母の家が早川邸の近くにあり、「身近なところにすごい人がいたんだ」と驚き、何か手伝えることがあればと思いついた。

Hayakawa Tokuji 早川徳次

Tokuji Hayakawa (早川 徳次 Hayakawa Tokuji, November 3, 1893 - June 24, 1980)
was a Japanese businessman and the founder of Hayakawa Kinzoku Kōgyō (the present-day Sharp Corporation). He invented and patented the "Tokubijō" belt buckle in 1912 (a belt which can fasten without perforating) and invented the "Ever Ready Sharp" mechanical pencil (from which his company would later get its name from) in 1915.

The success of the "Tokubijō" belt buckle led to Hayakawa starting his own metallurgical processing, which then developed into the present-day Sharp Corporation.

Tokuji Hayakawa was born in Tokyo in 1893. Due to difficult domestic circumstances, he was adopted by the Ideno family. It was not until he grew up, however, that he learned of this. He left primary school after second grade due to his family's poverty, and was apprenticed to a maker of metallic ornaments. He worked diligently there to improve both his skill in metalwork and understanding of the trade, earning the trust of his master.

Though the buckle had been used since ancient times for such accessories as armor and shoes, it started to be used on belts for boys' trousers in the 15th century and came to be used in women's clothes in the 19th century. It took two forms: practical and decorated. When Hayakawa launched his buckle in 1912, demand in Japan for the buckle increased with the spread of Western-style fashions.

Hayakawa and other artisans, however, had not yet had a chance to wear Western-style clothes and belts.
Hayakawa happened to notice a silent film actor whose belt had come undone. This inspired him to spend time after work inventing a new belt that could be fastened to any length.

As a result, he developed a buckle that used a roller to fasten a belt without puncturing it. His master admired his inventiveness and recommended that Tokuji apply for a patent. He suggested the name "Tokubijō" adopting one character of Tokuji.

The first order for the Tokubijō buckle was huge — 33 grosses or 4,752 in total. Because of the pressures to deliver his product on time, Tokuji decided to go independent. He borrowed most of the capital independently and launched his own shop in September, 1912. He introduced industrial presses, hired workmen and delivered new orders with no interruption. He was able to promptly retire his debt. He continued to improve his manufacturing process and expand his business into a bigger plant.

In 1913, Hayakawa acquired the patent of an innovative water faucet, and in 1915, he developed the prototype of the sharp automatic pencil still sold today. Afterwards he demonstrated managerial genius, expanding his enterprise into electronics manufacturing of world-famous radios, tape-recorders and televisions. He was active in social welfare programs. He died in 1980 at the age of 86.

DARUMA - Tachidaruma statue Gifu Tounji

Tachidaruma, Tachi-Daruma 立達磨 / 立ち達磨 Standing Daruma Statue



This is the largest Daruma statue in Japan!
It is in Hida, Gifu 岐阜県飛騨市（旧吉城郡神岡町) and 16,5 m high.
It was made in 1973 in July.

The mountain belongs to the temple 曹洞宗補陀山洞雲寺 Toun-Ji of the Soto Zen Sect.
It was founded around 1400 and became the family temple of the 江馬氏 Ema clan around 1600.
The temple is better knows as だるま堂 Daruma-Do Hall.
There is a huge collection of Daruma artifacts in the hall, now attracting many visitors.

「町のシンボルにしよう」と達磨像の話が持ち上がった。 達磨大師は曹洞宗の原点の一つだが、別のきっかけもあった。 浩潤球学（1877-1953）という高僧である。俗姓を丘といい、丘球学としても知られる。球学老師は明治27年に洞雲寺二十世住職となった大潤（丘）宗潭に随侍していた。宗潭老師は伊豆の修禅寺住職となり、のちに永平寺副貫首も務める。 球学老師はよく洞雲寺にきて、町の住民に戒を授ける「授戒会」で「戒師」を務め、昭和28年に遷化されたが、住民たちは今も「球学さん」と、よくその名を覚えている。 　その球学老師は、よく筆を執り、数多くの絵や書を神岡の人々に手渡したという。絵では観音様の次に達磨太子の絵が多く、そのことを町の人たちは思い出し、達磨像にしようという話になった。 　またこの立ち達磨をきっかけに、昭和59年に全日本だるま研究会初代会長・今泉實平氏が三千点に及ぶ達磨コレクションの寄進を申し出た。すると建物は寄進を申し出る人もいた。これにより洞雲寺内に「達磨堂」が完成。展示を行っている。 　昭和30年一月、江戸木遣りが神岡に伝授された記念に、町の人々が行列を組み、横２ｍ、縦１ｍの額を同寺の金毘羅堂に奉納。以降、「初金毘羅」は盛大になり、達磨市が出て達磨供養も行われるようになった。

高さ8.9ｍの銅製の立達磨像。台座を含めると16.5ｍに及ぶ。
使用した銅約8tは、三井金属鉱業神岡鉱山から産出された銅鉱を使用。
1973年（昭和48年）6月3日建立。
「だるま」は禅宗の「初祖」として崇敬されている菩提達磨が壁に向かって九年の座禅を行ったことによって手足が腐ってしまったという伝説がある。ここから、手足のない形状で置物が作られるようになり、丸みを帯びた「だるま」が一般的となった。「立ち達磨」は菩提達磨が立位した銅像で、日本一の大きさを誇り、極めて珍しい。

it will stumble here and fall down to its death.
The villagers think this must be a sign of Yamanokami. They think Yakanokami is a deity to protect horses and cows and call him Toban San.

Shortly after the War, some 20, 30 men went into the forest to cut trees. They heard a voice calling for them and followed the voice. But the voice (of Yamanokami) kept coming from a different direction each time.
So they begun to recite a Buddhist sutra and indeed, the voice kept quiet.

On the 20th day of the New Year (mugimeshi shoogatsu 麦飯正月 eating barley) Yamanokami goes to the forest to count the trees.
If a person goes to the forest on this day, he will be counted as a tree and later experience disasters and misfortune.
So this is a holiday for the forest workers.

Hiroshima, 広島県 福山市駅家町 Fukuyama Ekiya


In the middle-range of 芦田川 river Ashidagawa. It's form is 前方後円墳. It dates to the middle of the 6th century.
The diameter is about 12 m, and it is 4 m high. The space inside is open to the South and is 横穴式石室, it is about 6,35 m.
The genshitsu 玄室 burial chamber is about 4.1 m long, 2.9 m wide and 3.3 m high.
The sendoo 羨道 passage is 2.25 m long, 1.26 m wide and 1.25 m high.
The excarvated pieces are
金銅製丸玉2個分，鉄斧1，金銅製杏葉ならびに鉄地金張りの鏡材片2個分，方形飾金具，鉄針，須恵器・土師器片がある。

Recent advancement in the study of the Tsuyazaki mounded tomb group and other sites has enhanced our understanding on the tombs of the chieftains in the Munakata Region. And archeological investigations of dwelling sites have resulted in accumulated evidence that tells of the life and activities of immigrants from the Korean Peninsula. Comparison of these two makes it possible to depict the rise of chieftains in the Munakata Region based on international exchange. Okinoshima Island is situated at a
pivotal location of maritime transportation and it should be possible to discuss the role played by Munakata chieftains in the Okinoshima rituals by linking the rise of chieftains with the international exchange with the Korean Peninsula. It should be noted, however, that the formation of the Tsuyazaki mounded tomb group and the increase in archeological evidence of immigrant activities took place in the second half of the Middle Kofun Period, while the maturation of Okinoshima rituals occurred at the end of the Early Kofun
Period. There is an apparent time gap. A major task for the future is to look at the intervention of chieftains in the Okinoshima rituals and the life and activities of immigrants in the period from the end of the Early Kofun Period to the first half of the Middle Kofun Period from a broad perspective of the post-Yayoi periods.

The largest tumulus in North Chikuzen during Period 8 corresponding to the end of Middle Kofun Period is considered to be Yamanokami mounded tomb in Iizuka City in Agglomeration Midstream of the Onga. River that has an estimated total length of about 85 meters, even though no exact measurement is.

中津川市山口 Nakatsugawa city, Yamaguchi
山の神古墳（2号墳）は、直径約15ｍ高さ約3ｍの規模で、墳丘の一部に葺石が見られます。
古墳の年代について、指定時に「7世紀初頭から中期」と報告されましたが、『山口村誌』では「5世紀終末までは遡らない様」としており、位置付けが定まっていません。昭和32年に行われた発掘調査で須恵器、土師器、刀子が出土しました。
かつてこの古墳の北側にもう1基古墳が存在していたと云われていますが、現在では消滅してしまっており、その姿は確認できません。

The Yamanokami Kofun is also a circular type. It is 15.8m in diameter and 1.8m in height. There is a moat on its north side, and a terrace on its south side. The kofun is presumed to be built in the early to mid 6th century.
Artifacts found from this tomb include sue ware (gray stoneware).
The entrance of the horizontal stone chamber was blocked by stones.

徳島県名西郡石井町石井　Ishii, Myozai District, Tokushima

山ノ神古墳（やまのかみこふん、山の神古墳/山ノ神1号墳/利包古墳<としかねこふん>[1]/利包山古墳[2]）は、徳島県名西郡石井町石井にある古墳。形状は前方後円墳。気延山古墳群（うち山ノ神古墳群）を構成する古墳の1つ。史跡指定はされていない。
徳島県北部、吉野川南岸の石井町・徳島市境の気延山（きのべやま）西麓に築造された古墳である[3]。気延山では200基以上の古墳（うち山ノ神古墳群は3基[2]）が分布し、本古墳はその中で最大規模になる[3]。本古墳は1978年（昭和53年）に発見されたのち[4]、1983年（昭和58年）に測量調査が[2]、2014年度（平成26年度）以降に発掘調査が実施されている[3][4]。
墳形は
前方後円形で、墳丘に段築は認められていない[4]。墳丘長は約56メートルを測るが、これは徳島県では第3位の規模になる[4][注 1]。円筒埴輪は認められていないが、形象埴輪片や鉄鎌・鉄斧が検出されている[4]。主体部の埋葬施設は粘土槨2基で、墳頂部で並んだ状態で設けられている[5]。以上より、築造時期は古墳時代前期の4世紀後半頃と推定され[4]、山ノ神古墳群含む気延山古墳群では最後の前方後円墳に位置づけられる[3]。
なお、
1号墳のそばには円墳（直径14メートル）が位置し、築造時期は4世紀末頃と推定される[4]。この円墳の周辺部では徳島県内2例目（全国では約70例）となる筒形銅器が出土しており、畿内王権との関わりの点で注目される[4]。

Yamanokami Matsuri festival at 香美町香住区沖浦 / Kasumiku Okinoura, Kami, Mikata District
The children paint their faces black with charcoal and bring offerings to the shrine, walking along about 1 km, on January 8.
They pray for the health and wellbeing of the members of 127 families living there.
This festival dates back to the Heian period, around the year 830.
Yamanokami is seen as a woman who gets angry quite easily.

Around 1890, there lived a skilled forest worker named 兵右衛門 Hyoemon. On the day of the festival for Yamanokami he went to the forest. On his way back he stopped at the waterfall near the Shrine. There coming from downstream, he saw a strange creature as large as 10 Tatami mats, of green color, without a head or tail, climbing out of the river.
Hyoemon was frightend and run home as fast as he could, but fell ill on the same day and died a few days later.

Yamanokami Koen 「山の神」公園 Park named Yamanokami
In the park are many Yokai statues, for example of 河童 Kappa and 天狗 Tengu.

There is also a statue of a mother inoshishi イノシシ wild boar, a 妖怪 Yokai monster named Yamanokami.
This statue had one a prize at the Japan-wide competition for Yokai statues. It is about 2 meters high and weighs 200 kg.
Yamanokami is known as an ugly woman, as causing accidents and snowstorms.

In the 飾磨郡 Shikama district, it is not allowed to go to the forest on the Day of Yamanokami, the 9th day of the first lunar month.
If someone does, he will fall from the rocks and get hurt badly.

On the Day of Yamanokami, nobody is allowed to go to the forest, because Yamanokami counts the trees.

Tengu matsuri 天狗祭 Tengu festival
During a local Tengu festival, someone put a glass of Sake 酒 rice wine on a branch of the tree. And a few days later, the Sake had all gone . . . Tengu like to drink!

Another person often went to 酒倉 the storehouse for Sake. There lived also a Tengu, and since the Tengu does not like to drink alone, this man kept him company.

If someone denies the wish of a Tengu to play with him, his home will be cursed. The roof might be blown away and stones are thrown at the walls.

Sometimes there is the sound of something coming from above, that is the Tengu. He sits on an old tree and if a child has done something bad, he pulls it up (in a bucket).
Tengu also like fire. If someone walks alone at night and sees a flame, he is surely fooled by the Tengu.

In one valley there lived a Tengu.
Although there is nobody to be seen, there is the sound of someone felling a tree. This must be the Tengu.

彦作 Hikosaku was on his way home at night, when a Tengu came along. The tengu asked him for fire to have a puff of tobacco. Hikosaku tried to make fire with カドイシ his flint stone and the Tengu took a leisurely, pleasing puff. Then the Tengu asked him go give him his flint stone and so he gave it to the Tengu.
Hikosaku was blessed by the Tengu and achieved 神通自在 supernatural power for himself.

Once 屋根葺き the straw roof of a home needed to be done anew and the group who helped each other with this work got together to discuss the proceedings. A Tengu came along and said he would do it all by himself in one night, but nobody was allowed to see it. That night there was quite a noise on the roof, but next morning - indeed - the straw roof was all new. Even the ground before the house was swept clean with no trace of the old straw left.

There was a man named 久左衛門 Kyuzaemon who had good hand lines. Once a Tengu came and borrowed them. As a reward he gave Kyuzaemon one Soy bean to keep as a treasure.
A few years later, there was a great fire in the neighbourhood and many homes burned down. But the house of Kyuzaemon was safe.

Dendeko is the big drum of a Tengu. He comes to the village and hits his drum to make people laugh.

In the evening there is a Tengu with a long nose sitting on the roof, and people are not allowed to walk under the eaves of this house. This is Maa san.
If the Tengu has kidnapped a child, people search for it under a sugi 杉 cedar tree in the mountain.

On the 8th day of the 5th lunar month, people prepare a round flower arrangement with seven different flowers and people have to walk through it. The ring must be put up in the East of the home and be as high as possible.
The seven flowers are:
fuji フジ // tsutsuji ツツジ // yamabuki ヤマブキ // gibooshi ギボウシ // suzume no chabukoro スズメノチャブクロ // kogome コゴメ（クサソテツ） // botan ボタン
If someone has been kidnapped by a Tengu, it is best to take a bunch of these seven flowers and go looking for him. If the person his found, the flowers are burned and the person purified with the smoke.

今立郡 Imadate district 池田町 Ikeda

Once a man went looking for firewood in the woods and did not come back for a few days. His family begged the Tengu to let him go. The man went to the mountain a few times a year to have drinks with the Tengu.

Once a family made 酒 Sake at their home. From the nearby hill there came a Tengu with a lantern and sat on a keyaki 欅 zelkova tree. He sneaked into the Sake storage room and drank the rice wine, making a loud noise. The head of the family heard the noise and said:
"We made a good rice wine this year. Even the Tengu has come to taste it!" and all were happy.

When they were digging a canal for 月ヶ瀬用水 the Tsukigase Waterway, a Tengu came and disturbed them, throwing stones.
One of the workers went to Shikoku to pray at Konpira san and after that, the Tengu did not show up any more.
One of the rocks along the Waterway is called Tengu Iwa 天狗岩 "Tengu Rock".

In the East of 段の岳 Mount Dannodake (734 m) there lives a Tengu.
If anyone cuts the trees of this forest, his home will suffer a fire.

Tengu no nage-fude 天狗の投げ筆 the brushwork thrown by a Tengu
There is a treasure named Tengu no nage-fude, a calligraphy by a Tengu.
About 300 years ago there was a doctor who was very skillful at writing calligraphy.
One day he met an old man with white hair in the mountain who said: "Please lend me a paper with your calligraphy for two or three days!" The old man was of course a Tengu.
He gave the paper back and the doctor kept it as a hanging scroll, said to protect his home from fire. Later the doctor went broke and gave the scroll away, but the home where the scroll was hung up now burned down.
Only the scroll had jumped from the wall and was safe.

Once a man had been fooled by a Tengu and spent the whole night looking for a way out of the mountain. He kept walking until early morning light to find the right way.

There is a place named bikunin korobashi ビクニン転ばし.
Once upon a time, a nun (bikuni 比丘尼) had tried to climb the mountain, but she got kicked over by a Tengu,
fell down, rolled down all the way and died deep in the valley.

遠敷郡 Onyu district

A Tengu sitting on a low branch had been visible as a reflection on the water.
A hunter tried to shoot at it, but the Tengu run away just in time. That night the Tengu appeared in the dream of the hunter:
"Why would you try to shoot at some reflection in the water? Don't be stupid when hunting."

Once a samurai walked alone at night and was stopped by a Tengu. The Tengu wanted to have a sword fight with him. The Samurai won the fight and took away the sword of the Tengu.
The sword is still a family treasure.

坂井郡 Sakai district

During 日清戦争 the Sino-Japanese War, the Tengu had helped and worked at the battlefield.
To show their gratitude, the villagers offered sekihan 赤飯 red ritual rice and Sake at the Torii gate of the Shrine near the sugi 杉 cedar tree where the Tengu lived.
When they tried later to cut the tree, blood came sprouting out of the cut.

Around 1910, an old woman went to the mountain to get some hana shikibu はなしきぶ (花式部) Caryopteris xclandonensis flowers.
But she did not come home. They all looked for her for three days and did not find her. Later they found her trapped in the branches of a tree.
She must have opposed a Tengu and he had taken her away as punishment.

敦賀市 Tsuruga

There are some large rocks where a Tengu lives and all are afraid. Once a man named 三左衛門 Sanzaemon begun making charcoal nearby. The Tengu appeared and said:
"This here is my garden, go home at once. Blow the flute, hit the drum and go down the mountain!"
But the man did not do as told and a few days later the Tengu appeared again.
"I give you one more warning, go home at once!"
Suddenly there was a strong rain and wind and the man climbed down the mountain. But the storm was very strong and the home of Sanzaemon was blown to pieces.

Tengu no su 天狗の巣といわれる木 a tree like the nest of a Tengu
Before cutting down a tree with a "nest of a Tengu2 in the branches, the wood cutters have to make an offering of 酒 Sake and cut the root of the tree with one cut, leaving the masakari マサカリ ax on the spot.
If they come back next morning and the Sake and the ax are gone, this is a sighn that it is all right now to cut the tree.

Tengu no ishikoro 天狗の砂礫 gravel of a Tengu / Tengu no su 天狗の巣
Around 1920, suddenly a lot of gravel came flying over from the other side of the valley. The villagers thought this was the mischief of some young folk, but next came a loud noise from the ground, almost an earthquake. Then came more gravel, バラバラゴー barabaragooooooo.

In Iwate, a 吉野桜 Yoshinozakura cherry blossom tree which is befallen of the
tengusubyoo 天狗巣病 "nest of a Tegnu", witch's broom disease
is called "Broom of Yamanokami".


A witch's broom or witches' broom is a deformity in a woody plant, typically a tree, where the natural structure of the plant is changed. A dense mass of shoots grows from a single point, with the resulting structure resembling a broom or a bird's nest.

In 浪速の車町 Kuruma-machi, Naniwa at the 蘆池 Ashi-Ike pond a stone memorial with a figure of Yakushi had been found.
It is also known as
浪花薬師 Naniwa Yakushi or 蘆やくし Ashi-Yakushi.
Every year there was a festival in its honor.
But now the whereabouts of this Yakushi are not known any more.

When a samurai from Aizu, called Ito 伊藤修理太夫光家 passed here, he was attacked from bandits 野武士. But Yakushi jumped in his place and the samurai was saved.

If the farmers prayed hard to Yakushi, he would prevent their estate from the damage of mice eating their rice harvest.

There is a mountain called

In Shigaraki town there is a 不動寺 Fudo Temple. Once a man went missing there and people got out with drums and bells to look for him. They found him dead leaning on a tree on the Ise Road near the Ishi Yakushi stone 石薬師伊勢道.
This was the wrongdoing of a 天狗 Tengu for sure.

Yakushi no tatari 薬師のたたり the curse of Yakushi
Once upon a time, a member of the 加賀美イツケ Kagami clan had an eye disease. In a dream he was told that he should go to lake 明見湖 Asumiko (in nearby Yamanashi) and look for a statue of Yakushi Nyoarai to venerate. He did so and his eyes were healed.
But later through a curse of the Yakushi he was forced to bring it to the temple 常在寺 Jozai-Ji in 小立村 Kodachi-mura.

庵原郡 Ibara district 両河内村 Ryogochi-mura

Once Tokugawa Ieyasu came to 大平の薬師様 Yakushi Sama in Ohira village and prayed, and soon his eyes were healed.
This Yakushi once wanted to be venerated by many more people and came all the way to 吉原 Yoshiwara Town in Eastern Shizuoka. But there he could not move on any more.
So it seems Yakushi did not want to go to Ohira after all.
Ohira is a small village near Numazu - 静岡県沼津市大平.
