玉泉寺というお寺に、門司城の主だった大積伊賀守隆鎮という人の墓がある。大友宗麟に討たれてこの墓に葬られたという。この墓に付いた苔を牛馬に食べさせると河童に捕られないという。

馬を洗っているとえんこうが取り憑いたので、引っ張り返して捕まえたという。君谷村の玉泉寺では、今後川で人をとらないと約束して証文を入れ、口羽村の宗林寺では、和尚が岩に文字を刻んで、その文字が見えなくなるまで人をとらないと誓わせた。えんこうは毎晩出ては岩の文字を消そうと撫で続けたという。
