Iooji 医王寺 Io-Ji, Asahi
薬王山 Yakuozan, 無量院 Muryo-In / 無量寿院, 医王寺 / 醫王寺 Ioji
The main statue is 薬師瑠璃光如来 Yakushi Ruriko Nyorai.
The temple was founded in 805 by 春光坊法印祐長 Priest Shunkobo.
Around 1500 it became the prayer temple for the local lord Mamiya, 戦国時代には当地領主間宮豊前守信盛の祈願所ともなっていたといいます
The present main hall was built in 1957.
To show their gratitude, the crabs from the pond came near and sprinkled water to protect it.
In the compound is a 塩なめ地蔵堂 hall for Jizo licking salt.

Yakushi Nyorai 薬師如来
医王寺の薬師如来は行基が作ったものといわれる。昔医王寺に盗賊が押しかけ、薬師如来像や宝物を盗もうとしたことがあった。そのとき１人の坊さんが盗賊の前に立ちはだかり、盗賊たちをなぎ倒し追い払った。この時の坊さんは実は薬師如来が姿を変えたもので、像には盗賊につけられた刀傷が腕に今も残っているという。

ある人が医王寺に奉納した絵馬が落ちているのを家人が見つけて当人の身を心配していた。当人は江戸で暗殺されていた。

昔、医王寺にいた住職は美男であった。ここに住み込みで使えた下女は醜女で、和尚の気を引こうとして薬師如来の御燈の油を盗んで髪につけ、身だしなみを整えていた。それが和尚に露見し、叱責された上に寺を追放された。女は怨み悲しんで世を去った。その後、彼女の墓のあたりに青白い火がジワジワと油の燃える音を立てながら飛んでいる、その音は「メッタイクヤシイ」と言っているように聞こえるという。明治の初年頃までは見られたらしい。

内金の左官がノツコシ峠を歩いていると、負ぶってくれという声がして何か背中に負ぶさりかかったものがあった。左官は恐ろしさにかけだしたが、長篠の医王寺の明かりがみえたら急に背中が軽くなったような気がした。

katame no sakana 片目の魚 a fish with one eye
医王寺の御堂の前にある池に魚を放すと必ず片目になると言われている。下流の小川にも稀に片目の魚がいて、御薬師様の鮒だということで、食べずに池に持っていき、ここに放したという。
