The district's administration was located in Akashi town. Akashi is a city on Japan's Seto Inland Sea. The ruins of Akashi Castle include 17th-century turrets, and surrounding Akashi Park is known for its spring cherry blossoms. Nearby, the Akashi City Museum of Culture displays prehistoric and Yayoi-period artifacts. The Akashi Municipal Planetarium has exhibits related to astronomy.
