1 The Stone of the Tengu's Heel
Near the top of Mt. Shira at Inaba, Asahi-mura, Higashi Kasugai-gun, three is an old stone about three feet in diameter. It is called "Tengu no Kakato Iwa", the Stone of the Tengu's Heel.
On the surface of the stone there is a hollow in the shape of a heel of a big foot facing east. It is said that the Tengu who lived in this mountain in ancient days, intending to go one night to Mount Sarunage on an errand, stepped on this stone and jumped a big jump eastward, leaving his footprint on the stone. People say there is a Tengu still living on Mount Shira and that the Tengu's Fire is sometimes seen on dark, rainy nights.

2 The Tengu's Fire
There is a big pine tree at the Kita Kakai in Yamatomura, Nakajima-gun. It is said that Yamato Tekeru no Mikoto once put his sedge hat on this tree. The villagers often see a strange fire moving between this tree and the old cedar tree at Kumano Shrine in Kita Takai. This is said to be caused by the Tengu who has his residence on the tops of these two trees and comes and goes between them.

3 The Tengu's Pine
There was a big pine tree in the precincts of Shinmei Shrine at Kanesato, Tomita-mura. A Tengu lived there since ancient times. When he was in good humor, his laughter was heard throughout the village and the village was left in peace. But when he was offended, he did violence and frightened the villagers.
This tree fell down in a severe storm in 1921.

On the mountain pass there is a huge 杉 cedar tree. From its prances once dangled the cut-off arm of a human.
Two travelers passing by saw this and run away in great fear.
This must have been the mischief of a Tengu, for sure.

If the Tengu takes a pee on old 草履 Zori straw sandals, ticks will come out of it.
Once a mountain forest worker sat down on a pair of old straw sandals. All of a sudden he fell asleep. When he woke up, his body was covered with ticks.

It carries the name of TENGU, but is not a Tengu, rather a kind of 河童 Kappa.
It likes to make fire and if it finds a living creature, it burns it down. It does not like creatures living in water, since it can not set fire on them. Still it lights a fire at the seashore (iso) to try at least.

In the town of 半田市 Handa in former times fishermen saw a strange 白煙 white smoke whirling up on the sea and becoming bigger and bigger. It looked like a tornado and came with strong wind gusts. People who saw it called it the deed of Iso-Tengu.
Once a courages wild man ventured out to get rid of this Iso-Tengu. He climbed up to a mountain where the was Iso-Tengu residing and indeed, saw a white smoke like a tornado fly around. In no time the man was wrapped up in the smoke and drawn far out on the sea.

tengu sama no isami 天狗様のいさみ
On a quiet night without wind Tengu no Isami can be heard.
It comes from the topo of the Pine of 氏神の松 Ujigami no matsu and 山の神の松 Yamanokami no matsu and sounds like the nice melody of a flute.
It has been heard by a lot of people, but they all have run back to there home very fast.

Sometimes on a summer day, the sound of a drum is heard at the beach, like coming from the bottom of the sea and moving from North to South.
This is the "Drum from the Dragon Palace".

知多郡 - 南知多町 Minami-Chita

If fishermen leave some fish below a tree on the seashore, 磯天狗 Iso-Tengu comes to burn them.

Once a fishermen went fishing at 鳶ヶ崎 Tobigasaki on a night when it looked like rain would come soon. He caught amazingly many fish and the boat became quite heavy. Suddenly all became quite light and he looked up at the sky in amazement. From the sea there came some hi no tama 火の玉 white balls of fire flying toward him.
This must be 磯天狗 Iso-Tengu, he thought, put his straw sandals on his head and began to recite the Amida prayer. The balls of fire flew away the South. But all the fish had disappeared from the boat.

If the fishermen find their catch gone, they say it was the bad deed of Iso-Tengu.

Once a person was abducted by a Tengu and taken to 金毘羅様 Mount Kompirasan in Shikoku and even to 江戸 Edo in no time.

宝飯郡 Hoi district 音羽町 Otowa

hana tengu 鼻天狗 "Nose-Tengu"
Once Hana-Tengu played with the children and changed his size as they asked him to do.
First he became the size of 子供 a child, then of ねずみ a mouse, than of とり a bird, then of 米粒 a rice corn, then of けし粒 a poppy seed . . .
and you guess, finally the children stepped on the seed and crushed it.

東加茂郡 Higashi-Kamo district 下山町 Shimoyama

The local Tengu likes to make merry. Sometimes he sits on the high 松の木 pine tree and plays the drum.

Once a lumberjack was walking in the mountains and stopped by a Tengu.
He was asked to put his Zori straw sandals on his head and then someone peed on the sandals.

This is a district full of Tengu legends. Even plants are influenced by him.


Tengu nasu eggplants 天狗茄子

Sometimes people are assaulted by a Tengu. They are then usually told to put their Zori sandals on their head.

Kosaku and the Tengu
In Aichi Prefecture there lived a man in the Kitashitara district called Kousaku. Kousaku loved dancing and in particular the festival of Hana-matsuri. This festival is held at the end of December and the beginning of January each year. People preyed for good crops in the coming year and spent the nights dancing round bonfires.
On day, after the festival was over,
Kousaku was cutting grass on a hillside when he heard the sound of wooden flutes. He realized that these must be the instruments of the mountain Tengu. He tried his best not to dance, fearfull of becoming enchanted. But finally the music took hold of him and he began to dance.
He didn't know how long he had danced for when a Tengu appeared behind him.
"Come dance with us"
said the birdman and flun what looked like a rope up the mountainside. A passageway appeared in the mountain and the Tengu led Kousaku through it. Inside the hill were many more Tengu and Kousaku danced with them to the sound of their flutes. The Tengu were delighted with his performance and rewarded him with rice cakes and tobacco.
One tengu tested Kousaku's bravery by taking him to a cliff and threatening to throw him down. When Kousaku showed no fear the birdman was impressed.
On their way back to the village,
at a place called Imadate Kousaku found a tall cedar tree and cut its branch. He handed over it talking, " Please give this branch to your Greatest Tengu in the Mt. Akiba".
The tengu replied that he was a good man and they wished to repay him by giving him some form of great power. Kousaku requested to have great strength. The Tengu cast their spells and then Kousaku was empowered with a giant's strength. He uprooted the tree and carried it back to the village.

A very strong man named 又平 Matahei once passed below the 天狗松 Tengu Matsu pine tree. A man with a long nose suddenly appeared and asked him to compare their strength.
Matahei climbed on the tree and grappled with the man, but was thrown down and died soon after.

Once a man rested on the mountain when a large man suddenly appeared before him. The man asked him all kinds of personal questions and he could not help but answer. This made him realize his own personal situation very clearly.
At the end the large Tengu-Man gave him 黄金の玉 a golden ball and promised he would not tell anybody else about his secrets. Then the Tengu disappeared just as fast as he had come.

Once a young naive boy of about 15 or 16 years did not come home at night.
When the parents asked him the next morning when he came back, he sadt he had been in the mountain, led by a Tengu and played with 薬師 Yakushi Nyorai.

A father went to get some medicine for his daughter after giving birth.
At the pass he met some men with red faces and long noses. They led him back home and taught him how to make the medicine. He saw them off, making a deep bow at the door, but the rest of the family could see nobody.

Once a man on his way home from cutting weeds in the mountain forest, but the rope of the luggage on the horseback kept unravelling. So it took him a long time to get home.
This must have been the mischief of a Tengu, for sure.

Some forest workers were were trying to pull a large tree. Suddenly they saw a Tengu moving the heavy tree trunk easily and without any problem down the slope.
They got quite afraid and left the forest.

The blood of a bird shot down by an arrow kept flowing out of the wound. The hunters felt scared and uneasy and left the spot. But after a while they went back and found neither the bird nor any blood.
This must have been the mischief of a Tengu, for sure.

One evening a man took a rest at the pass. A man with a long nose, white hair and beard and 羽の団扇 a feather fan came closer and closer. He thought that must be a Tengu and was struck with fear. But he did not show his emotions and the man gave him a fish with no eyes.

The local Tengu like 神楽 Kagura music. During the 花祭り Hanamatsuri Festival they show up at 高嶺　Takane and are welcomed with lanterns.

Once a man had to walk over the mountain pass, when he saw some pitch-black men standing hi his way with a strange something. He could not even move any more. Eventually he turned back and went home. The forest workers said it was probably a Tengu passing, and the man died shortly after.

A man stayed over night at the Shrine 日光神社 Nikko Jinja, when he heard the sound of someone cutting wood and then of a tree falling down.
Later he learned that this was a place where the Tengu are passing.

In the next room there was a strange loud noise, ガラガラ garagara.
Next morning taking a look, nothing had changed.
People say a Tengu had been here over night.

Gobanishiyama 碁盤石山 A Mountain with a Tengu Legend
Mt. Goban-ishiyama. The mountain is 1189 m high.



Once upon a time
There lived a Tengu on this mountain who liked to play a game of 囲碁 Igo.
Once he had a match with a man known for his skill at the game, who lived in a village at the foot of the mountain. They played for seven days and seven nights, but in the end the Tengu lost. In his anger the Tengu took the last stone and threw it upside down. There it turned to a stone, to be seen to our day.

A similar legend of a Tengu playing Igo is told in Saitama 埼玉県.

There was a man named Taichi TENGU. This man, some day, went to the mountain. The surroundings became darker and darker, and then a Tengu appeared and said, "I take you as a disciple, so come with me." Even though the man said, "No," he was taken away forcibly, and the Tengu said, "Fly." "I will die if I fly. I can‟t stand it," he said, and the Tengu said, "That‟s impossible. Since I am a Tengu, you can fly, too, so fly." Then, the Tengu showed him fly before him. "Fly, fly," being pushed at the back, the man flied and could fly. Then, with the Tengu, the man was being trained on how to fly that way and this way, he did not go home for a while.
Then, some time,
everyone went to the mountain, and the man was standing blue. "Where did you go?" "I, taken by the Tengu, was being trained everywhere. I can fly that way, fly this way, I can fly over anything." After hearing that, everyone said "That‟s ridiculous. Show us how you fly." He couldn't fly but was able to do something an ordinary person cannot do.

is located on the border between Aichi Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture.



Tengu-dana shelf seen from the Mennoki Pass located on the south of Chausu.
You would see the nose of Tengu stick out of the right side slope.
You can watch Mt. Fuji from Tengu-dana shelf in a good weather condition.

The daughter of the village elder was choosen as the annual human sacrifice for the hihi 狒々 monster baboon, but a Rokubu saved her.
When he continued his travels, the Rokubu fell to the ground due to the poison of the Baboon. He was in turn saved by an old grandfather and grandmother, who told him to take shelter near the Jizo Bosatsu.
When the son of these elders came home, he killed his parents and said it was the Rokubu who had killed them.
Now the daughter who the Rokubu had saved in the first place realized whan has happened and and saved the Rokubu from the punishment of beheading.
Thus is the circle of events.

Just when a Rokubu pilgrim walked over the pass, the woman of the lodging gave birth to a baby. The husband, who had been away to get help, was surprized to find nobody at home when he came back, neither mother nor the baby.
To pray for their peace in the other world, he built a stone statue of Jizo Bosatsu. When the statue by accident rolled down the hill and into the swamp, he had a dream that night and Jizo told him where his wife and the baby were.

Rokubu Jizo no bachi 六部地蔵のバチ divine punishment
Once an old villager became very ill, but the cause was not known. When he asked a shaman he told him:
"Bring an offering of salt and clear water to the Rokubu Jizo every day!"
He did so for four, five days and - oh wonder - the man was healed.
People thought since the man had lost his wife in a traffic accident and collected a lot of insurance money to gamble around, this has been his divine punishment.

The 渡辺初男家 Watanabe family has a Jizo dating back to around 1855.
They got it to appease a Rokubu pilgrim who had cursed the family.

This Jizo helps taking away warts and is also called
ibotori Jizoo イボとり地蔵 Jizo taking away warts
People use the water offerings to spread them over their skin for healing.
If they get healed, they bring some Tofu as an offering.

Once upon a time
a Rokubu pilgrim came along and collected a few thousand stones, taking three, four years. Then he made a statue of Jizo Bosatsu of about 4 meters high, and used the small stones to make made a lot of small Jizo statues and left the village. Since the village children came to play with them, eventually the villagers built a lattice fence around it.
Once on a winter day, looking closely, the Jizo was not there any more, and the footsteps of a small child were all over the place. Following the footsteps, they found the Jizo near a clear spring. The villagers were overjoyed with the new water source and called the spring
Jizo Kiyomizu 地蔵清水.
In his honor they built the temple 谷泉寺 Kokusen-Ji near the spring.

Once a Rokubu Pilgrim stayed over night. Since he carried some money, the villagers killed him with a hemp cord.
Before he died the pilgrim said "I will extinguish this family and turn it into Roku Jizo."
The family flourished for a short while but then the line was extinguished.

The Rokujurokubu pilgrimage started a long time ago, already mentioned in the 太平記 Taiheiki history written in the 14th century.
There are various ways to do it.
A pilgrim copies the 法華経 Hokekyo Lotus Sutra 66 times and brings a copy each to 66 temples in 66カ国 66 different domains of Japan.
Others carried 66 copies to just one domain of Japan. There were no special temples to bring the sutas to.
Some wore a special robe and hat, others looked more like 山伏 Yamabushi mountain priests.
The pilgrims were thought to possess special powers and were also called 箱根法師 Hakone Hoshi or 箱根権現の僧 Hakone Gongen no So.
Some were considered as semi-religious itinerant beggars who frequented the highways of Edo Japan.
Many begging pilgrims died somewhere on their long road and were burried by the local people.
Some pilgrims promised to heal certain illnesses after their death, if the villagers built a sanctuary for them and venerated there.



During the Edo period the pilgrim could also carry a wooden backpack with a Buddha statue, walk to 66 temples while hitting a kane 鉦 prayer bell and ask for offerings.
Pilgrimages were quite popular during this time as a means to get out of Edo and get a permission to travel freely round the country.
The Rokubu pilgrims were just as popular as the Henro pilgrims in Shikoku.

Some Rokubu pilgrims just walked the 西国巡礼 Saikoku Kannon Pilgrimage to 33 temples twice or went to the 国分寺 Kokubun-Ji domaine temples or 一宮 Ichinomiya domaine Shrines.

Made of dried igusa イ草 reeds (the same as used for Tatami mats).
The hat is nine inches deep and two feet wide and is laquered black. sometimes with a center top and lower edge laquered chocolate brown. ... this deep hat conceals the face, so it can be worn for the same purpose as the tengai. The Rokubugasa has been adapted for stage wear by all classes.

流山市加１丁目
This memorial was erected in 1767 when a Rokubu pilgrim died in the village. They erected a stone memorial and a small hall around it, 六部尊堂, promising to worship there regularly.
But over the years all was forgotten and nobody cared for it any more.


But in 1958 a new hall was built and the neighbors begun to worship again. The hall was renewed in 2014.

Around 1775, a farmer from Takeno had killed a huge serpent which had devastated his buckwheat field. Since than, many small snakes had appeared in his home. To appease the soul of the serpent, the farmer decided to become a Rokubu pilgrim and also built a stone memorial. But until further generations of his family, bad luck continued. The water of the river which was filled with the liquid from the dead serpent, was unsuitable not only for humans, but also for horses and cows.

Once a Rokubu was killed by the villagers by mistake and burried in an estate called チンチン屋敷 Chinchin yashiki.
Every night the sound of a bell, like CHINCHIN , was heard in the village. So the villagers kept holding rituals for the Rokubu.

In 中原の洞 the cave of Nakahara an itinerant Rokubu had fallen ill and died. People from nearby made a grave for him. Son after that there was a fire in the neighbourhood. They had a Shaman find out about the origin and he told them, the grave of the Rokubu had been too simple, so he put a curse on them.
They re-built the grave and cared for it more carefully from now on.

There was a family in posession of a dragon ball. An itinerant Rokubu had left it there as a thank-you present.
If they rub it, eye disease will be healed.

Once the ball was investigated by 大阪の博物館 the Osaka Museum. They found it was one of the two special dragon balls in Japan, the 女玉 Female Ball.
"If someone finds 男玉 the Male Ball, we will buy it immediately!"

Once upon a time, every year at the annual festival a girl had to be offered in a white chest as ikinie 生贄 a human sacrifice.
Once an itinerant Rokukbu thought this was the doing of a Yokai monster. So he put a dog into the chest instread of a girl.
And indeed, 古狸 an old Tanuki badger came to get the offering, was bitten by the dog and died.

ある闇夜に化け物が出ると噂される古宮に目印を立てにいくこととなる。血気にはやる男を驚かそうと仲間の１人が先まわりして白装束のさばき姿で鳥居の上に身を潜める。そこへ件の若者が心細さのあまり頭に赤熊をかぶり鬼面をつけてやって来る。これに驚いた白装束は手をすべらせて鬼の頭上に落ちかかる。気絶した二人の失態に満座は大笑いとなる。

Once a traveling 能楽師 Noh-Master stayed over night in an old temple hall. Since it was so cold, he put a demon mask over his face to sleep. Some other people around thought it was indeed an Oni !

Every year on the 5th of January the ritual of Shuushoo-E 修正会 is celebrated.
It is also known as
the "Festival of the Demons of Yakushi Nyorai 大薬師の鬼祭".
12 men from Atsuta of the age of 25 and 42 (13 men on a leapyear) participate.
The demon masks of the temple are made of strong thick paper and ward off evil influence for the coming year.
The masks are imitations of the one's from the "Bull Festival of Kyoto" 京都牛祭.

A traveling child once lost its way and stayed over night in a lonely house. The owner was the Old Hag Demon with a maks of a red Oni. When the child woke up at night, it saw the demon roast a baby on a stick and devour it. It ran away as fast as it could and was saved by a charcoal maker in the forest.

The daughter-in-law went out every evening with a scarf covering her head. The old mother-in-law did not like that and tried to frighten her with the mask of an Oni.
But the daughter was not surprized at all, she just sat down and folded her hands in prayer. When mother wanted to go away, she could not get the mask off her face.
This is the origin of the rock called でこしき岩 dekoshiki-iwa, おでこさん O-deko San "Head Rock".

福島伊予守屋敷の雪隠に、妖がいた。夜、厠へ行くと毛の生えた長い爪の手で尻を撫でられた。ある人がその厠へ行くと、屋根から鬼面に似た顔が覗き、尻を撫でられた。これと組討し、刺殺したところ、大きな猿であった。

The origin of this word comes from a child's play, where kids put both hands on their face to pretend they are an Oni.
When a child does not go to sleep easily, the mother who sleeps close to it tells them to go to sleep fast, otherwise a real Oni would come and bite it.
There are also many fearful Yokai masks in Kagoshima. If parents want to chide their kids, they tell them
"men don ga kuru" 面どんが来る "The honorable Mister Mask is coming."

The words モッコ mokko, モウコ mooko or 嚙もうぞ hamoozo are also known in other parts of Japan.

Before entering the outhouse, you have to cough lightly to clear the throught and give the Toilet Deity a signal of your coming.
Once 比丘 a nun forget to do this, went inside and so dirt got on the demon mask. The Demon got angry and prevented the nun to come again, causing hermental disturbances.

A New Year ritual on the first day of the second lunar month.
Two men, one with a red and one with a blue demon mask walk around the temple hall three times. After that 100 men waiting outside with oak wood sticks surround them and hit them. A man who hits an Oni will have good luck and a rich fishing harvest in the coming year.
The two actors of the Oni are not to complain, even if they get hit hard and die from the hitting.

This shichido no men 七道の面 "mask of seven roads" is from the shrine 北城の切久保の宮 Kirifurimiya at Hokujo hamlet.
This is a story of a daughter-in-law who got harassed by her mother-in-law. The daughter stole 鬼面 one mask and tried to frighten her mother at night. But the mask kept sticking to her face, so the woman went to a cave at 楠川 the river Kuzugawa.
That is why to our day there are only six masks at the shrine.

The mother of this story teller was kidnapped by a Tengu living on mount Kimenzan. when she was young.

Due to a curse of Ono no Komachi there grows only one-sided reed along the river Omonogawa.

Once around 1920,
a family almost shipwrecked, but eventually made it back to home.
They had a wooden amulet from 成田の不動尊 the famous Narita Fudo on their body, but this amulet was broken.

memorial stones of Fudo Myo-O near the waterfall

At the 不動の滝 Fudo Waterfall upstream of the river Takashitanigawa 高科谷川 Fudo Myo-O is venerated. When there is a water shortage in the village, people come here to pray.
If a frog appears while they pray, then rain will fall soon.
If bees come out while they pray, it will not rain for a while.

高山市 Takayama

Fudo sama is a part of 富山にあるお岩不動 the O-Iwa Fudo (the Rock Fudo) from Toyama.
If people with eye problems pray to it, their eyes will get healed.

神戸市 Kobe

chinoike jigoku 血の池地獄 Chi no Ike - hell blood pond
A small pond near the 折靑渓不動の瀧 Fudo Waterfall before the 観音橋 Kannonbashi bridge. Mothers who die in childbirth have their blood flow in this pond.
Their relatives bring half of a white hand towel, make a knot in the four corners to scoop some water from the small river and leave it at the side.
Other travelers pick it up and ask for water to be scooped into the towel. If it soon shows a hole and the water flows out, this person will go to paradise fast after his/her death.

洲本市 Sumoto

Upstream the river 物部川 Monobegawa there is a place named 切石 Kiriishi (cut stone) with many rocks. The big ones are 立岩 Tateiwa and 双子岩 Futagoiwa, a smaller one is called 島岩 Shimaiwa.
The river between Futagoiwa and Shimaiwa is quite dangerous for children to play. In the space between the rocks stands the 不動の岩 Fudo Rock.
A child once tried to split this Fudo Rock, but the child went crazy soon after.
Once upon a time
a tanuki 狸 badger lived between these rocks. People who came to gather firewood have seen it near the willow tree beside the Fudo Rock, sometimes shape-shifting into a strange human figure.

北相馬郡 Kita Soma district 守谷町 Moria

O-bake ishi お化け石 The ghost stone



In July of 1975 there appeared a ghost face on the memorial stone for Narita Fudo Myo-O 成田山不動明王石碑に幽霊. Some said it was the ghost of whe samurai Taira no Masakado 平将門様, others said it looked like their grandpa, others saw a woman in white robes carrying a child. No, it was a white cat buried below the stone. . . . All kinds of visions!



This story got so famous that it was even shown on TV and the village was flooded with inquisitive tourists. They needed a car parking space and the road to the Stone was always packed with cars. Then in the end it became clear that the "ghost" was some dried autumn grasses 枯れ尾花 and the fame died down, the village became quiet again.

hi no tama 火の玉 ball of fire
On the way to the outhouse toiled, under the persimmon tree, there were two balls of fire rolling around. Coming closer, they vanished.
When asking the parents about his vision, he was told this was the deed of a mujina ムジナ.
Grandmother had once seen a ball of fire under the pine tree near the Fudo sanctuary and also said it was just a mujina badger.

yonayona hikaru ishi 夜な夜な光る石
the stone that sparkled all night

This region, once ruled by the 佐竹家 Satake clan cam under the lordship of the Tokugawa.
The graves stones of the Satake clan had been removed and thrown into the river. Among the grave stones was also a stone statue of Fudo Myo-O which begun to sparkle at night. 丹下の宗助 Tange no Sosuke picked up the stone and began to venerate it.

In the old postal town 藤代宿 Fujishiro juku a girl of just eight years gave birth to a baby boy. This was very special and she got money to live a good life.
When they dug for a well in her new residence, there was a huge stone. Inside the stone was a statue of a golden Buddha, 不動尊 a golden Fudo.

東磐井郡 Higashi Iwai district 大東村 Daitomura

Once a villager was cutting down trees. He came to the hamlet of 野田集落 Noda and cut the branches of a torii Shrine gate dedicated to Fudo Myo-O お不動様の鳥居 and spent the night in the Fudo Hall. Because it was bitter cold he tore off the flags and used them to cover his shivering body. Then at midnight there was a sound at the front door.
And then next morning he could not move his body. Because he had slept in the same direction as the deity, he had been obstructing the deity from leaving the hall and this was his punishment.

遠野市 Tono 土淵町 Tsuchibuchi mura

zashikiwarashi, zashikiwaraji ザシキワラシ/ 座敷わらし Zashiki Warashi Child
Once there was a fire in the village and just then a child with short cut hair おかっぱ姿 walked by the homes asking for food because it was hungry. The people were busy putting out the fire and did not pay attention to the child, but despite all their effort the home burned to the ground.
Another home, where the folks  took the time to give some food to the child, did not burn down.
Now they say it was O-Fudo sama walking around trying to prevent the fire from spreading.

On Zashiki-Warashi
Zashiki-warashi ("zashiki" meaning the tatami room of traditional Japanese houses, and "warashi" meaning a kid or small child) are often seen as a kind of omen in the houses of once-great families on the verge of decline.

東和町 Towa

Once an old woman was cleaning the toilet, but happened to get some dirt on the Fudo venerated in the toilet 便所の不動尊. Then came the village sports event in autumn, but this time she could not participate because her whole body ached for two days.
Now she knew what to do. She cleaned the statue of Fudo with some wand and yes - her pain was gone.
